With over 20 years of extensive leadership experience in financial crime compliance, investigations, and risk management, Jeff identifies novel, underserved risk challenges-risks that currently lack comprehensive solutions-and applies an AI-embedded, outcome-driven operating model to build scalable solutions. His deep expertise spans key domains including agentic AI, AML, ATF, sanctions, digital assets, blockchain analytics, digital forensics, and investigations. Stephen is an admitted lawyer and solicitor in Ontario, the US and the UK. He is an IAPP certified privacy professional and ACAMS certified CAMLO. His current role is with Avondale Private Capital as Legal Counsel and Compliance Officer. He sits on wide range of advisory committees including the IAPP’s Canada Advisory Board providing direction on IAPP education. He also sits as an Executive on a number of Ontario Bar Association Executives Sections including the Privacy Law, Business Law, Insurance Law and In House Counsel sections.

His legal career has been focused on retail financial services as in house counsel in Canada and the US including roles as General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Privacy Officer. These roles have been primarily with retail insurance and securities companies including Mutual Life (Sunlife), Foresters Financial (US and Canada), Foresters Equity Services (US), HSBC and Canada Protection Plan. In these roles he has also been lead in house counsel on technology implementation projects and contracting.

Garry Clement is a recognized Financial Crime Prevention expert and advocate, with a distinguished career spanning over 34 years. He joined VersaBank in London, Ontario, as the Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer. In 2024, his role expanded to include support for U.S. BSA compliance as the bank entered the U.S. market, and he was named Senior Vice President, Government and Community Partnerships at DRT Cyber. In 2026 Garry transitioned into a Senior Advisor Role, Global AML/ATF, followed by a consulting contract early March 2026 in lieu of an employee role. Garry has maintained his role as President & CEO Clement Advisory Group. Before these roles, Garry served as the Executive Vice President at the Association of Certified Financial Crime Specialists from 2016 to 2018, where he played a pivotal role in leading strategic initiatives. He also sold both his AML practice and his investigative practice under Clement Advisory Group during that time. With extensive experience in policing, Garry draws on his tenure as the National Director for the RCMP’s Proceeds of Crime Program. Throughout his career, he worked as an investigator and undercover operator in some of Canada’s most significant organized crime cases. His exemplary investigative work earned him numerous awards and commendations. In 2025, Garry was recognized at the Global Awards for Business Consultancy Firm of the Year due to his impactful work at VersaBank and his dedication to addressing organized crime and its effects in North America. Garry is also a recognized author and contributor. He has written and co-authored several influential papers on organized crime and money laundering, both nationally and internationally. In 2023, Garry contributed to the book Dirty Money: Financial Crime in Canada, edited by Christian Leuprecht and Jamie Ferrill. Additionally, in 2022 and 2023, he worked with Optimum Publishing on his book Undercover: Inside the Shady World of Organized Crime and the RCMP. Jeffrey Robinson, bestselling author of The Laundrymen, The Merger, and The Sink, has praised Garry’s expertise, stating: “Garry Clement is a national treasure. He’s spent his life in service to Canada, and I guarantee he knows about international organized crime, drug trafficking, money laundering, and state actors – China, Iran, Mexico, Russia – who today pose a major national security threat to Canada. Garry began his journey in anti-money laundering (AML) in 1983 and was instrumental in developing the RCMP’s Proceeds of Crime Program. He has been accepted as an expert witness in Canadian courts on several key issues, including:
